Santa Cristina Umbria IGT wine pours a straw yellow color, with intensely fruity aromas with the typical notes of bananas and tropical fruit of the Grechetto and Procanico grapes. The palate is soft and aromatic with Viognier notes of candied fruit.

The climate of the 2016 vintage was characterized by a slightly rainy spring and a hot summer with excellent temperature swings from daytime heat to evening and nighttime coolness. During the springtime, the growth and development of the vines were regular in character, and the positive summer weather led to a balanced growth of the plants and a good ripening of the grapes. The Viognier was picked towards the end of the month of August, while the harvest of the Procanico and Grechetto crop took place in late September.

The fermentation of the Procanico, the Grechetto, and the Viognier took place separately on the basis of the ripening time and picking of the grapes. After a delicate destemming and pressing, the must be chilled to a temperature of 50° Fahrenheit (10° centigrade) to favor a natural static settling of the grapes. The must then went into stainless steel tanks for the fermentation. The wine remained in stainless steel at a temperature held at 50° Fahrenheit and was then bottled in small lots.

The “classic” Santa Cristina, first produced in 1946, found its “home” sixty years later in the Santa Cristina cellars located in Cortona, in the heart of Tuscany. Ever since 2009, the Santa Cristina line has been enlarged to include a Santa Cristina Bianco, a white wine, and a Santa Cristina Rosato, a rosé. The care and attention which these wines are given, first in the vineyards and then in the cellars, had made this a reference point line both for connoisseurs and for a wider public as well.
